Where the two different oil lines connect to the bottom of the VNT center housing is the same (2-screw flange and gasket). The later style bracket mounts to a different hole in the block. The lower mounting bracket is also different. You'll notice that the oil return line is much different between the two. I converted mine over to the later A4 style when I was refreshing the shift-tower. My 2000 Beetle had these ball-socket connectors, which are neither the "early" or "late" version. There was a slightly different version in the model year 2000.or part of the 2000 model year and into 2001.I'm not 100% sure, that had the ball-socket cable ends and levers on the shift tower. There's the "Early A4" shift tower/linkage assembly (1998-1999.5 somebody correct me if I'm wrong), and there's the "Late A4" tower/linkage (2001-up to 2006?). There is a member on here that post pics of the different styles.I'll see if I can find it.Īs for the shifter linkage, there's actually three different versions, but for all intents and purposes there are now two different versions. There are details on these different versions if you search on here, but not much. With a 2001 model or above, I'm pretty sure you'd have the later style bracket/oil line. I don't know exactly when this change was, but I thought it was sometime in the 2000 model year. You can convert the older style oil return piping and mounting bracket to the newer version, it's not a big deal.
